Tommy Mc’s Produce & Country Store – Albany, Georgia’s PHUN Spot!

Founder of Phickles, Angie Tillman …grew up in Albany, GA but with her visits back to her hometown spent with her Grandma, Aunts, Uncles & Cousins …mostly during holidays …there just hasn’t been time to focus on sales. A trip to visit her Grandma in the hospital allowed for a little bit of time to pop in with pickle samples at Tommy Mc’s Produce & Country Store last week …and we are happy to spread the PHUN news that Albany, GA finally has a spot selling Phickles Pickles AND our Hot Mess Cheese Spread!

Tommy’s the owner of Tommy Mc’s where he and his wife, Wendy stock their country style market with cakes, cheeses, wines, Cafe Campesino Coffee from Americus, GA, Sterling Silver steaks, fresh seafood from Apalachicola, casseroles, homemade pies, & now…. our pickled okra, beans, carrots, cucumbers, our original pickle…our pickled green tomatoes and our cheese spread made with aged white cheddar with our pickled jalapeños mixed in!

We love that our food business bridges us together with fine store owners like Tommy!

Tommy Mc’s Produce & Country Store is located at 2357 Lake Park Drive in Lancaster Village in Albany.

Go get your PHIX at this refreshing breath of Southern hospitality all under one roof!

Hop Harvest Festival – and a batch of Beer Brined Sausage

In anticipation of Terrapin Brewery’s annual Hop Harvest Festival, I’m using their beer in different pickling recipes to share in our tent at the festival. Today…I made Beer Brined Sausages with Terrapin’s RYE Pale Ale and Little Smokies from Hillshire Farm. They taste great!

Fun In The Low Country

With the growing popularity of Phickles in the low country, we’ve been headed back and forth from Athens to the marsh a lot lately. For our kids, these trips always start out with lots of “are we there yets?”  Between filling station pit stops for gas and jerky and sweet treats ….when they’re not entertained by electronic devices, they sleep.

The Phickles kids were happy to wake up at Mainline Market in St. Helena, South Carolina! Mainline Market has everything from fresh produce, wine and beer ….to local art, fishing tackle and crab traps.  The kids were happy to find beef sticks and skittles and sugary beverages and we were happy to find fresh fish and crab claws!

If you’re headed to Fripp or Harbor Islands, ya gotta make a quick stop at Mainline Market for fresh, locally-caught fish and local veggies and anything else you forgot to pack. It’s a fun place to look around. They’re always getting in new things. We even got to meet the artist who makes the adirondack chairs they sell.  We’re proud to know Phickles are there on the shelves above the produce and also near their bloody mary mixers. Yes, they have EVERYTHING!

A quick delivery, a few pictures, some jerky and boiled peanuts ….and we were on our way for a little relaxation and playtime at the Westin on Hilton Head Island. We got to the island just in time to hit the beach for sunset.

I love sharing our story with our PHriends. We face struggles every day …but all in all, we have a good, fun life ….and for that we are grateful.  I hope our story of selling only to locally-owned stores and restaurants inspires all in our path to support other mom ‘n pops like us. If you like following along with our day-to-day doings, I update on a daily basis on our facebook page. Scroll around on our home page and find the facebook widget and click ‘LIKE!’
